Liverpool Community Development Services

The Liverpool Community Development Service (LCDS) has been commissioned by Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to improve the mental health outcomes of Liverpool’s BME communities and delivered by a consortium of partners:

  • Mersey Care NHS Trust
  • Person Shaped Support (PSS)
  • Mary Seacole House

 Service Objectives:

  • Help tackle health inequalities and improve the mental health and wellbeing of the BME community taking into account the 9 protective characteristics in the Equality Act 2010
  • Help improve access to mental health services and improve experience of service provision by working jointly with the key mental health providers
  • Help build capacity with the community to promote resilience
  • Help address the language and other barriers to help people find effective pathways across health and social care directing people to both community/statutory resources
  • Develop joint working between statutory and community services and highlight the importance of cultural in services and practice
  • Identify community concerns and gaps
  • Seek out capabilities of communities to develop innovative practice
  • Increase channels of communication between statutory and community services

Mary Seacole House will provide the Advocacy element of the Liverpool Community Development Service.

The aim of the service will be to:

Provide issue based advocacy to individuals from BME communities in Liverpool which will address the needs of the culturally diverse communities.

This service will include the following:

  • supporting individuals to decide what they want to say at meeting/reviews with other professionals
  • helping individuals to access services that may require addressing equality/diversity issues
  • helping individuals with documentation and writing letters
  • helping individuals understand complaints procedures
  • helping individuals to obtain relevant information
  • working with local family and friend networks
  • signposting individuals to relevant services
